"A study in structural reduction, merging limestone with the coastal horizon."

Situated on the Alentejo coastline, the Coastal Villa is conceived as an architectural resolution of the cliffside. The structural language is monolithic, utilizing Portuguese limestone to establish a precise relationship between the site and the built form.

The design objective was absolute clarity. By removing transitional ornament, we allow the movement of light and the resulting shadows to define the primary character of the space.

Light as Mass: Hard architectural shadows on raw limestone
01. Light as Mass

Courtyards are carved deep into the stone volume, functioning as light wells that capture hard, architectural shadows, measuring the passing of the day.

02. Spatial Compression

The entry sequences feature intentionally low, compressed ceilings clad in smoked oak, which dramatically release into the expansive, double-height living spaces facing the sea.
